The "Longing and Repression" series by Pierre Toutain-Dorbec show photographic portraits of couples from the Middle East as a mirror and witness of the psychological act of excluding desires and impulses (wishes, fantasies or feelings) from one's another. Toutain-Dorbec’s photographs reflect the ways in which we present ourselves to the world, and the ways in which we may be hiding or repressing parts of ourselves. By acknowledging and integrating these excluded desires and impulses, we can achieve a greater sense of wholeness and authenticity, which can lead to greater self-acceptance and fulfillment.
